OSCE supports anti-corruption pilot programme for secondary schools students and teachers in Kazakhstan
An OSCE-supported training seminar for some 100 secondary school teachers on a new anti-corruption curriculum took place on 30 October 2015 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The seminar was the last stage in a series of sessions for 150 school students at two Kazakh- and three Russian-speaking schools which were held earlier in Almaty.
The event was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana in co-operation with the Agency for Civil Service Affairs and Anti-Corruption, the Education and Science Ministry and the non-governmental organization Transparency International – Kazakhstan.
The training seminars were the next step in implementing an anti-corruption programme developed by the Office with the aim of supporting legal education and promoting a culture opposed to corruption among youth.
The seminars presented a model for classes and lectures on anti-corruption. Students and teachers then provided their feedback on the effectiveness of the methodology and curriculum. Their recommendations will be incorporated into the final version of the manual on teaching on anti-corruption and then submitted to the Education and Science Ministry for approval and possible inclusion into extra-curricular activities nationwide.
The project is part of the OSCE Programme Office’s activities in the fight against corruption and promoting good governance and falls in line with the priority of the 2014 Swiss and 2015 Serbian OSCE Chairmanships on engaging youth.
