OSCE Centre in Astana helps promote oil spills prevention, preparedness and response

Jeannette Kloetzer, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Centre in Astana, spoke at a conference on industrial safety and oil spill prevention, preparedness and response in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 14 March 2013.
Kloetzer presented the OSCE Centre’s work with Kazakhstan’s authorities and non-governmental stakeholders to address the environmental risks of energy-related activities in the Caspian Sea region. She also spoke about the promotion of the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative in Kazakhstan, aimed at using natural resource revenues to help protect the environment and improve the energy and environmental security of resource-rich countries.
The conference brought together some 100 representatives of government agencies, oil and gas companies, investors and civil society organizations from the Caspian Sea region as well as leading international experts.
