OSCE Office presents media awards for promotion of gender equality in Armenia
YEREVAN, 10 February 2012 – Twenty-one awards in twelve categories recognizing the promotion of gender equality in the media were presented today to the winners of the Na/Ne (S/HE) annual competition.
The annual Na/Ne media award, organized by the OSCE Office in Yerevan in conjunction with the British Council, the British Embassy and the United Nations Population Fund, seeks to promote activity by women in the political, social and economic fields, and to showcase their achievements and everyday experiences.
“The talents and potential of women in Armenia are not fully harnessed. If Armenia is to progress and move forward, women must have a leading role in that process. The media is essential in that regard,” said Oliver McCoy, Democratization Programme Manager of the OSCE Office in Yerevan. “From what I have seen today, I believe this annual media contest does a lot to draw the attention of the media and public to the lives and experiences of women in Armenia.”
Organized for the fourth consecutive year, the contest received more than 225 contributions from 136 media outlets, journalists and other organizations. In 2011, for the first time, participants and the public could submit contributions and vote online: http://blog.britishcouncil.org/nane/
