OSCE Office in Yerevan supports discussion on migration data gathering in Armenia
A roundtable discussion on collecting and updating migration statistics was held on 9 December 2011 with the support of the OSCE Office in Yerevan. The event aimed to contribute to more targeted migration management in Armenia.
Researchers, sociologists and demographers looked at ways to improve migration data collection and sources for more reliable data on migration. The impact of migration on various social groups and migrant profiling were also discussed.
“The OSCE Office in Yerevan has assisted Armenian agencies in their efforts to get data on migration flows, helped raise the challenges faced by labour migrants and returnees, and developed documents contributing to migration management. I hope this event helps to improve the tools for collecting more reliable migration data for implementing more targeted migration management policies,” said Carel Hofstra, the Acting Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan.
Researchers, representatives from the State Migration Service as well as other state, non-governmental and international agencies participated in the event.
