OSCE Project Co-ordinator assists development of remedy standards in human rights violation cases in Ukraine
A conference on state responsibilities and compensation standards in cases of human rights violations and mass torts was held in Kyiv on 2 December 2011, with support from the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine (PCU).
Government officials, judges, legal professionals, and academics discussed international standards of compensation for human rights violations, responsibilities of the state and national standards of compensation in cases of violation of the right to life. Close attention was paid to the experience of the European Court of Human Rights and prospects for the development of extrajudicial remedies for human rights protection in case of mass torts.
The conference was organized in co-operation with the Institute of International Relations of the Kyiv National University within a PCU project aimed at fostering the development of appropriate remedy standards of state liability in human rights violation cases.
