OSCE Office in Tajikistan supports meeting to review environmental protection concept
DUSHANBE, November 5, 2010 - More than 35 officials from government agencies and regional bodies working with environmental protection discussed the implementation of a concept and an action plan to protect the environment during a roundtable meeting organized today by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.
Participants in the meeting discussed the implementation of the Environment Protection Concept and an Action Plan, both developed with support from the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.
"Structured and co-ordinated implementation of the Action Plan will contribute to environmental developments and effectively address environmental challenges," said Nana Baramidze, Environmental Officer at the OSCE Office.
Aykhon Sharipova, the Deputy Chairperson of the Government's Environment Protection Committee said the roundtable meeting helped focus environmental work.
"The implementation of the Concept will improve the environment in all regions of Tajikistan," he said.
The Office supports the country's work to improve the environmental legislation, policy and security. It also works to help enhance capacity of governmental officials to draft and implement environmental policies.
