OSCE Office trains Tajik border troops

DUSHANBE, 28 July 2009 - The OSCE Office in Tajikistan signed a memorandum of understanding today with the Tajik Border Troops Department to provide a comprehensive training programme aimed at enhancing the department's patrol and surveillance capacities.

Tajik border personnel will be trained in patrol programming and management, patrol leadership, patrol-related analytical processes, patrol medicine and winter patrolling as part of the one-year programme.

"The training will provide the skills and knowledge necessary to build the capacity of the Tajik Department of Border Troops to detect and disrupt illegal movements across the Tajik-Afghan border through the use of improved human surveillance," said Ambassador Vladimir Pryakhin, the Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.

The OSCE Office will hand over all project-related equipment and assets to the Tajik Department of Border Troops when the programme is completed.
