OSCE Centre opens summer camp on environment for young people in southern Tajikistan
DUSHANBE, 12 July 2005 - Sixty young people from remote southern areas of Tajikistan on Monday joined an OSCE summer camp that focuses on ecological degradation and ways to protect the nature.
The 10-day camp in Kurgan-Tube is aimed at promoting the importance of environmental education and legal awareness among the young people.
"Your future is in your hands," Saulius Smalys, Environmental Officer of the OSCE Center in Dushanbe, told students at today's opening ceremony.
"You will contribute to protecting your immediate environment if you share the knowledge you receive in the camp with your friends, neighbours and relatives."
Stoyan Davidov, Head of Kurgan-Tube Field Office, which organized and funded the event, said it was the third stage of a programme to raise environmental awareness among the population of our region.
