OSCE trains Tajikistan law enforcement agencies on combatting organized crime
DUSHANBE, 20 February 2015 – Twenty-six officers from the Tajik border troops, the State Committee for National Security, the Ministry of Interior, Drug Control Agency and Customs Service completed a two-week training course today on combating organized crime, organized by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.
Graduates, members of respective training institutions and operational managers learnt about investigating financial crimes, countering money laundering, as well as techniques for identifying and combatting drugs smuggling, illegal migration, trafficking in human-beings and combatting terrorism.
"Increasing the skills of Tajik border and law enforcement officers in tackling growing organized crime, and thus enhancing the national border management strategy, is essential to strengthen border security for both national agencies and the international community," said Ambassador Markus Mueller, the Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.
The course, which is part of the OSCE’s border security programme, focuses on the capacity-building of national border security and management agencies. It was supported by experts from Tajik National law enforcement agencies, such as the Ministry of Interior and the Drug Control Agency, and international experts from Hungary and Turkey.
