OSCE Mission to Skopje facilitates discussion on crime prevention
A two-day roundtable discussion on assessing the Interior Ministry’s achievements in the area of crime prevention began in Ohrid on 21 June 2012. The meeting is a joint initiative of the OSCE Mission to Skopje and the Interior Ministry, and aims to evaluate crime prevention activities to assist the Ministry in developing sustainable future activities in this area.
The Head of the OSCE Mission’s Police Development Department, Viacheslav Vorobiev, opened the event, emphasizing that the ownership of prevention activities by the Ministry will reinforce trust between the police and citizens, which is a key requirement for an effective police-public partnership.
“The results of these discussions will help the OSCE plan for a gradual withdrawal of assistance for community policing and police prevention activities, as the country’s police service has made significant advances in these areas over the past years,” he said.
