OSCE Mission to Skopje supports training for Special Units Department
Advanced-level training on “Techniques and Tactics for Maintaining and Restoring Public Peace and Order” for 30 participants from the Interior Ministry’s Special Units Department was organized by the OSCE Mission to Skopje, in co-operation with the French Embassy in Skopje, from 2 to 6 April 2012.
The training is a follow-on activity from 2011, when the same participants were provided with basic-level training on handling armed offenders in a crowd. The training will be delivered once again by experts from the French Direction Centrale des Compagnies Républicaines de Sécurité.
The aim of the course is to enhance and further develop techniques and practices for members of the Unit for Training and Support inside the Special Units Department to handle armed offenders in a crowd, in order to provide protection to the people around them and to themselves, while observing the principles of proportionality, legal use of force and respect for human rights and civil liberties.
The training course falls under the Mission’s 2012 activities dedicated to strengthening the Interior Ministry’s structure and capacity to deal with transnational threats, with special attention to the fight against organized crime and terrorism.
