OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje supports anti-trafficking training targeting legal professionals

SKOPJE, 5 June 2003 - A second group of about 70 prosecutors and investigative judges will participate in a two-day seminar in Struga on 6 and 7 June. The focus of the event will be on the strengthening of prosecutions and fair trials in cases of human trafficking. A list of OSCE recommendations will be provided to the participants for their review and consideration for adoption.
The seminar was organized by the Centre for Continuous Education of the Association of Judges, financed by the OSCE Mission. The event is part of a series of seminar held in support of a regional judiciary training module initiative implemented by the International Centre for Migration Police Development under the auspices of the Stability Pact Task Force to Combat Human Trafficking.
The seminar participants will be addressed by the Judges and the Prosecutors Associations, the National Commission to Combat Trafficking, the OSCE Mission, the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development Assistance and Training, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and ICMPD. A number of key non-governmental organization partners have also been invited.
Judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and representatives of the Ministries of Interior and Justice will review legal and procedural aspects of trafficking cases and discuss practical issues related to crime detection, evidence gathering, witness protection, and fair trial practices.
