SKOPJE 15 April 2003
SKOPJE, 15 April 2003 - A three day training workshop to be held in Ohrid this week will bring together about 40 prosecutors, investigative judges and police inspectors directly involved in assisting victims of human trafficking.
The workshop, which takes place at the Bellevue Hotel from 17 to 19 April, is organized by the OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje, the U.S Department of Justice International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) and the Overseas Prosecutorial Development Assistance and Training Program (OPDAT).
"The goal of the workshop is to improve the prosecution of trafficking cases as well as assistance and protection for trafficking victims and witnesses," said Geraldine Bjallerstedt, Senior Rule of Law Officer on Anti Trafficking with the OSCE Mission. "We also expect participants in the forum to discuss the weaknesses encountered and propose recommendations for improvements."
This is the third in a series of four anti-trafficking training workshops. Invited speakers will include representatives from the Regional Center for Combating Trans-Border Crime of the Southeast European Cooperative Initiative (SECI), national organizations, government officials, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and local non-governmental organizations.
