OSCE Mission to Skopje offers handbook on education decentralization

SKOPJE, 30 May 2008 - The OSCE Mission to Skopje marked the completion of a two-year initiative to support decentralization of education today with the presentation of an updated handbook on relevant legislation and recommendations on its implementation.
The project included education for trainers, 10 regional workshops and nine roundtable meetings at which 700 local and national stakeholders involved in education learned more about their roles and responsibilities in a decentralized education system.
"Many of those who should be involved lack knowledge of their roles and responsibilities, and this project has helped to clarify the situation." said Bernard Segarra, Head of Mission's Confidence Building Department.
Jovan Ananiev, who wrote the handbook said: "The handbook will be a good reference for continued progress in the field of decentralization of education."
The handbook is available in English and in Macedonian, Albanian, Serbian, Turkish, Vlach and Romany.
The OSCE Mission organized the project together with the Education and Science Ministry and the Association of Units of Local Self-Governance.
