SKOPJE, 3 November 2006 - Promoting inter-ethnic dialogue and improving the social-economic environment is the aim of the OSCE-supported project "Trails of Communication" which will be launched near Matka Lake, outside Skopje, tomorrow.
The event is implemented by the local Federation of Mountaineering Sports.
"We designed this project using innovative methods. During the training course, future mountaineering guides will improve their communication skills and have an opportunity to better understand and appreciate the advantages of different cultures," said Goranco Tintoski, the Federation's project manager.
Ambassador Natalya Drozd, Deputy Head of the OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje, added: "In some areas of the country with mixed ethnic populations and few opportunities for young adults, projects like this one can get young people from different backgrounds working together and offer them concrete skills and hope for the future."
The OSCE Mission has donated to the Federation mountaineering equipment that the participants will be using.
