Students’ “Gathering against Violence” supported by OSCE Mission to Skopje
As part of an OSCE-supported project to improve school safety, thousands of secondary school students gathered simultaneously on 26 September 2013 in nine cities across the country, to send a universal message against violence among youth.
Students from Bitola, Ohrid, Tetovo, Prilep, Gostivar, Makedonski Brod, Kicevo, Struga and Skopje took part in the event under the motto “Gathering Against Violence” at public squares in their cities.
Representatives of the OSCE Mission to Skopje, the Education and Science Ministry, the Interior Ministry, local self-governments, teachers, parents, and citizens attended the gathering in their support.
“Our vision is to inspire young people to become an active force in promoting a very powerful message that violence is not an option in settling disputes or clearing misunderstandings,” said the Acting Head of OSCE Mission to Skopje, Ambassador Marianne Berecz, who attended the gathering in Gostivar.
“The OSCE Mission to Skopje firmly supports the government’s efforts to contribute to safety in schools”, she added.
The event is a part of the OSCE Mission to Skopje’s “Safe Schools – Harmonious Environment” project.
