OSCE Mission to Skopje supports theatre play against youth drug abuse
The OSCE Mission to Skopje supported the local police in Bitola in developing a youth theatre play as an effort to prevent the use of illegal drugs among young people in Bitola, a city in the south-western part of the country.
Secondary school students developed the play from script to performance. On 3 April 2013 it was shown on stage in Bitola for the first time. The play illustrates the negative impact of drug use in an effort to increase awareness, especially among young people.
The play, with the ironic title “That was Special”, highlights the need for communication with the police as well as with other institutions that can help prevent drug abuse.
The play is the culmination of the larger “The Police – Your Friend” project, which brought together representatives from all sections of the community to promote awareness of drug use and engage in joint prevention initiatives.
The event falls under the Mission’s activities to support community policing and police prevention activities in the country.
