OSCE Secretary General, in Jordan, calls for strengthened dialogue, discusses practical co-operation
OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier during his official visit to Jordan from 17 to 19 June 2012 met with high-level officials to discuss existing and potential projects and areas of co-operation between Jordan and the OSCE.
In a meeting with the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Ala’a Bataineh, Zannier praised the quality of the co-operation between the OSCE and Jordan, a Mediterranean Partner for Co-operation since 1998. The Jordan-hosted OSCE Participatory Workshop on Environment and Security Issues in the Southern Mediterranean Region is a good illustration of the country’s commitment to co-operating with the Organization, Zannier underlined.
In his discussions with various high-level interlocutors, the SG explored the potential for exchanges of experiences and concrete co-operation between the OSCE and Jordan on a range of security issues, including responding to transnational threats, borders security and environmental challenges.
Besides a number of bilateral meetings with senior officials from various ministries, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of Environment, of Energy and Natural Resources, the Secretary General also delivered a speech at the opening of the Participatory Workshop on Environment and Security Issues in the Southern Mediterranean Region and a public lecture presenting the OSCE work and approach at the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy.
