OSCE Mission to Serbia supports fight against child pornography on Internet
Some 20 law enforcement investigators from the police services of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia participated in a three-day regional training course on the use of new computer software to fight cybercrime.
The OSCE Mission to Serbia’s Law Enforcement Department, with the support of Norway, organized the course to improve the capacities of the Serbian Ministry of Interior and law enforcement services in South Eastern Europe, to prevent and investigate child pornography and sexual abuse of children on the Internet, as well as to foster regional police co-operation in the area of fighting cybercrime.
"International police co-operation is of crucial importance in the fight against organized crime, especially cybercrime, which knows no boundaries. The Internet can be a powerful tool in the hands of criminals. This training course aims to enhance regional police co-operation and thus help prevent the distribution of child pornography on the Internet and apprehend perpetrators,” said Tom Erik Guttulsrod, the Nordic Police and Customs Liaison Officer.
In particular the course focused on the fight against child pornography and sexual abuse of children on the Internet by tracing files used by those involved in the exchange of such material over the Internet.
Upon completion of the training, Nordic Mule Software will be donated to all six police services participating in the project.
