OSCE Mission to Serbia presents television documentary on activism
BELGRADE, 2 November 2010 - A television documentary that tells five stories of how groups of engaged people were able to change their communities for the better, produced with support from the OSCE Mission to Serbia, was presented today.
The 25-minute documentary "Take Action" will be broadcast on local TV stations throughout Serbia during the coming weeks.
By showing how groups of people are able to organize themselves to, for example, lobby for environmental security or promote the rights of marginalized groups, the documentary emphasises how involvement in the decision-making process can lead to positive change.
"To transform democracy from an abstract system enshrined in the law into a lively and inclusive process, citizens need to become more active in shaping political decisions affecting their daily lives," said Diana Falloni, the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia's Democratization Department.
"The media can play a crucial role in fostering more transparent and participatory governance in the country."
