OSCE Mission to Serbia hosts first e-learning conference for Serbian police

BELGRADE, 23 March 2010 - An OSCE-supported conference on e-learning for police training and education experts, the first event of its kind organized in Serbia, took place in Belgrade today.
Around 50 representatives of the Serbian Interior Ministry took part in the conference. They familiarized themselves with the concept of e-learning and online training and exchanged ideas with counterparts from Slovenia, Sweden and Turkey.
"This conference reflects our mutual commitments on the police training reform processes," said Torbjorn Sande, the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia`s Law Enforcement Department. "The OSCE works to enable the Serbian police to learn about the latest trends and models in police training, which would increase the efficiency of the police education system in Serbia."
Urban Nordmarker, a lecturer from Sweden who addressed the workshop participants, added: "E-learning is a time- and cost-efficient way for police-capacity building, and could be a useful tool for Serbia's Interior Ministry to maintain high professional standards of policing."
The conference was part of the OSCE Mission to Serbia's police training programme, which assists the Interior Ministry in its work to establish a sustainable and efficient system of police education and training.
