OSCE Head of Mission to visit southern Serbia

BELGRADE, 2 September 2003 - The Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, will tomorrow visit southern Serbia to reaffirm the Mission's support and commitment to the multi-ethnic constituency.
Last week Ambassador Massari publicly condemned the recent violence in southern Serbia and spoke of the need for multi-ethnic stability and socio-economic development in the region.
The OSCE Mission is implementing a number of projects in southern Serbia in the areas of community policing, multi-ethnic policing, multi-ethnic media, support to civil society, education and the judiciary.
Ambassador Massari will hold meetings with senior officials, including the Mayor of Presevo, Riza Halimi, the Mayor of Bujanovac, Nagip Arifi, and the Co-ordination Body for southern Serbia.
Together with Rasim Ljajic, Minister of Human and Minority Rights of Serbia and Montenegro, the OSCE Mission Head will visit a pre-school in Bujanovac to mark the beginning of the new school year.
Media representatives are invited to attend a press briefing after the series of meetings. It will take place at 14:30 in Bujanovac Press Centre.
