OSCE Mission to Serbia supports workshop for police spokespersons
BELGRADE, 9 October 2009 - Twenty-seven regional police spokespersons from the Serbian Interior Ministry completed a three-day training course on public relations and communication in Belgrade today.
The workshop, which was facilitated by the OSCE Mission to Serbia and the Interior Ministry's Bureau for Public Relations and Media, aimed to enhance professional standards and improve police communication with citizens.
"The police in Serbia need to engage the media in order to promote their work and improve the way they are perceived by the community. For their part, the media rely on accurate and timely information provided by the police," said the Acting Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Thomas Moore.
"This training course supports police professionalism and gives participants the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate effectively with the media. We hope that this is just the beginning of many similar events that we will jointly organize in the future."
Public relations and communication are a new priority area of co-operation agreed by the Interior Ministry and the OSCE Mission to Serbia.
