OSCE Mission to Serbia supports forum on police education
BELGRADE, 29 September 2008 - Some 150 national and international policing experts gathered today in Belgrade at the International Forum on Police Education, Training and Learning to discuss the latest trends in adult learning and how they can be applied in police education.
During the two-day event, hosted by the OSCE, academics and practitioners from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States will lead discussions on police education and training, and how police in Serbia and from the region can benefit from new developments.
"The OSCE Mission to Serbia has been working closely with the Serbian Ministry of Interior on the reform of police education and training, and on long-term overall police reforms. Fora like this are excellent opportunities to share knowledge and experiences, as well as discuss alternative approaches. Modern police education and training should embrace the concept of life-long learning and to be open to new methods so as to meet the increasingly demanding requirements of police work," said Anthony Pahigian, Acting Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia.
Dragan Markovic, Interior Ministry State Secretary added: "Our aim is to develop sustainable systems for training and education in line with the Ministry's strategy and to ensure harmonization of our police service with European and international standards."
