OSCE Mission, Serbian Justice Ministry sign partnership agreement
BELGRADE 18 December 2007
BELGRADE, 18 December 2007 - Ambassador Hans Ola Urstad, the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, and Serbian Justice Minister, Dusan Petrovic, signed a new partnership agreement today.
Under the agreement, the OSCE Mission and the Justice Ministry will begin work on transforming the Judicial Training Centre into a Training Academy.
"This partnership will help in the crucial process of transforming the Judicial Training Centre into a Judicial Training Academy, a modern institution responsible for training judges and prosecutors," said Ambassador Urstad. "Institutionalized, continuous, in-service training is a crucial precondition for building efficient and independent judiciary."
The agreement will also help support law-making working groups, engage international advisers, and increase the capacity of the Judicial Reform Commission and the Ministry of Justice to deal with the judicial reform process.
The activities set out in the agreement will be financed by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), and will be part of the OSCE Mission's efforts to help create an efficient and independent judiciary in Serbia.
