BELGRADE 13 October 2006
BELGRADE, 13 October 2006 - The first specialized training course for Serbian Interior Ministry staff on dismantling illicit drug production laboratories concluded today in Belgrade.
Thirty police officers from the Ministry's Criminal Investigation Directorate and forensics experts took part in the nine-day course facilitated by the OSCE Mission to Serbia in co-operation with EUROPOL.
"Training courses that help fight drug trafficking have proved to be one of the most efficient methods of equipping police with skills to counter organized crime," said Aage Aase, Head of the OSCE Mission's Law Enforcement Department.
"The training course enhanced the capacity of the Serbian police to detect, investigate, and effectively use evidence in cases of clandestine production of illicit drugs."
EUROPOL trainers also instructed police on how to deal with the health hazards involved in the dismantling of the chemical laboratories.
