OSCE Mission in Serbia and Montenegro launches programme for journalists on environmental reporting
BELGRADE, 22 April 2005 - A workshop for journalists reporting on environmental issues, organized by the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro, began today in Nis.
During the three-day training course, participants will master the techniques of collecting, processing and distributing information on the environment. Lecturers include leading journalists and editors, as well as representatives of NGOs from Serbia and Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The deteriorating state of the environment is having a negative impact on the health of the people as well as the social and economic development of Serbia and Montenegro.
The event launches a year-long programme, developed by the Mission and co-funded by UNESCO, to improve the standards of reporting and increase public awareness of environmental problems.
In the coming months, the Mission plans to hold a seminar on the protection of natural resources in Bajina Basta, several more training courses for local and regional journalists and to present an award for the best environment related story in Serbia and Montenegro.
