OSCE Mission to Serbia and Commissioner for the Protection of Equality mark International Day of Tolerance
BELGRADE, 16 November 2015 – The OSCE Mission to Serbia and the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality today marked the International Day of Tolerance with a prize ceremony awarding journalists for their reports on tolerance and non-discrimination.
The event, which supports the efforts of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, awarded journalists for their reports in three categories – Jovana Gligorijevic, Mihajlo Medenica, Ivana Petrovic and Sandra Irsevic (print/online), Jovana Uhrin, Ana Suvalija Pesic and Tanja Dimitric Mijailovic (audio/video), and Sandra Mandic, Gordana Lazarevic and Petra Zivic (documentaries).
“Equality and dignity are fundamental for the enjoyment of rights,” said the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Peter Burkhard. “Discrimination not only deeply harms affected individuals and groups, but also undermines the foundations of a tolerant and democratic society. It deprives us of the economic and cultural contributions which benefit us all and which contribute to a vibrant and thriving democratic society.”
The OSCE Mission to Serbia remains committed to working with the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality to further promote tolerance and non-discrimination.
