OSCE Mission to Serbia promotes regional co-operation among law enforcement officials
A workshop for police professionals from Serbia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Montenegro on using operational analysis as a tool for successfully disrupting organized criminal groups, took place in Belgrade on 25 November.
Crime analysis is a police method for identifying and analysing patterns and trends in criminal acts. It guides law enforcement agencies in deploying resources in a more effective manner and assists investigators in identifying and apprehending suspects.
Participants learnt about the regional mechanisms crime analysts are using in identifying patterns and trends necessary for developing reports which contain "investigative suggestions" - a guide for the investigating officer towards a specific line of inquiry not yet considered. In addition, regional police officers were given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the methodology used by the London Metropolitan Police Service that is generally regarded as market leader in the field of intelligence-led policing.
The Mission will continue to further support regional co-operation among law enforcement officials.
