OSCE organizes sub-regional training event on cyber/ICT security in Astana
A two-day sub-regional training on the role of cyber/ICT in the context of regional and international security, organized by the OSCE Transnational Threats Department in co-operation with the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, is taking place on 12-13 December 2017 in Astana.
During the training, some 40 officials and experts from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Moldova will discuss practical measures to enhance cyber stability between OSCE participating States, including through effective national inter-agency co-ordination and preparedness, and by implementing international co-operation mechanisms between governments to avoid possible misunderstandings.
“No country in the world is able to counter cyber threats alone. And that is also the reason why we need international co-operation: to deal with the growing challenges of technological development,” said Nail Akhmetzakirov, Acting Rector of the Law Enforcement Academy under the Office of the Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan.
Ambassador György Szabó, Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, said: “The use of the Internet will continue to expand all over the world and so will the opportunities and challenges it creates. In such an environment, we cannot afford to be slow and real actions must be taken.”
The sub-regional training event was the second in a series of practical training events which are part of a project aiming to enhance effective implementation and awareness of the OSCE cyber/ICT security confidence building measures, taking into account sub-regional differences in cyber/ICT security policy and capacities.
