Despite the progress made during decades of work by women’s rights organizations and democratic institutions, gender equality is still a long way off. There is a growing understanding that gender equality will only be achieved when men and women work together towards full gender equality and equal respect for the rights of all individuals and groups.

These handout materials were produced for distribution at the series of seminars for judges of Ukrainian administrative courts on application of practice of European Court of Human Rights in national justice. The events were organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, EU Twinning Project “Improving efficiency and quality of management of administrative justice of Ukraine”, High Administrative Court of Ukraine and Natuional School of Judges. Gender mainstreaming in water governance contributes to stability and security as it can lead to more effective policies and can work to reduce social imbalances and tension. When women and men equally decide on how to use water, decisions are better targeted and more representative of the needs of the entire population.
