The Guidelines for the Management of Small Arms and Light Weapons in Police Organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina (hereinafter the Guidelines) aim to promote an efficient and uniform approach by police officers in ensuring the safe storage and handling of weapons for their use, in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. Compliance with these Guidelines will contribute to reducing the risk of uncontrolled and unauthorized access to weapons in police organizational units, decreasing the likelihood of unauthorized use of SALW, and thereby increasing the safety of police officers during the performance of their duties.

A poll implemented by the Consultant of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina on internal and external communication practices among the institutions represented in the Co-ordination Board for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in BiH (hereinafter SALW Control Coordination Board) in April/May 2022 pointed to the lack of common monitoring and evaluation practices in place in regard to communication and outreach activities on this topic. Individual institutions represented in this body apply different methods and tools for the monitoring and evaluation of topics of their interest, whereas the most used ones are media analysis/press clipping and post-event evaluation surveys.
