VIENNA, 9 May 2018 – OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir and Head of Mission of OSCE to Montenegro Maryse Daviet today strongly condemned the attack against journalist Olivera Lakić in Montenegro. Lakić, an investigative journalist with Vijesti newspaper was shot in the leg last night in front of her home, in an attack by three individuals. She was immediately hospitalized and, according to media reports, is currently in stable condition.
"I strongly condemn last night’s brutal attack against Vijesti journalist Olivera Lakić in Podgorica. Olivera Lakić is a courageous journalist, well known for her investigative stories on organized crime and smuggling of cigarettes in the country. This is not an isolated incident, as she was attacked and beaten six years ago. "I send Lakić my best wishes for a quick recovery" Désir said. "No effort should be spared to identify and prosecute those responsible for this appalling attack.
