OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan supports Women, Peace and Security agenda in Uzbekistan
On 12-13 September 2024, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan (PCUz) in co-operation with the National Human Rights Centre (NHRC), conducted a roundtable on “Strengthening the Role of Women in Peace and Security Issues” in Termez (Surkhandarya region).
The aim of the event was to support the implementation of the National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security for 2022-25 and to promote women’s participation in the security sector and judiciary.
The roundtable brought together 28 representatives from judicial bodies, law enforcement agencies and non-governmental organizations. Participants discussed strategies to increase the representation of women in key positions within the judiciary and law enforcement sectors.
The event was opened by Ambassador Antti Karttunen, the PCUz’s Head of Mission; Dilnoza Muratova, Deputy Director of the NHRC; and Mukarram Nurmatova, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Family and Women.
In his remarks, Ambassador Karttunen emphasized the OSCE’s role in promoting and supporting Women, Peace and Security in the OSCE region. The organization’s work recognizes the importance of women’s full participation in peace and security governance at all levels.
