The European Union and the OSCE Strengthen Tactical Skills of Tajikistan’s Border Troops in Sughd Region

With the financial support of the European Union (EU), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Programme Office in Dushanbe concluded a “Tactical Field Capacity Building” course for 30 male officers of the Border Troops of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The four-week course took place from 7 July to 1 August 2025 at the Border Troops Detachment in Sughd Region, and is part of the third phase of the EU-funded project “Stabilization of the Southern Border Region of Tajikistan with Afghanistan” which has delivered over €7.8 million worth of support to date.
Delivered by four experienced national instructors, the training focused on strengthening participants’ tactical capabilities with an emphasis on navigation, terrain analysis, and map reading. Participants also engaged in practical exercises designed to improve their ability to navigate and operate effectively in complex environments.
The course also featured informative sessions delivered by UNHCR partners and UNICEF, highlighting key humanitarian protection principles and child-sensitive approaches relevant to border security work.
The EU and the OSCE are committed to supporting Tajikistan’s efforts in strengthening border security and institutional capacity through sustainable, locally-led approaches.
