A high-level meeting on the results of the OSCE assistance projects on small arms and light weapons (SALW) and conventional ammunition (CA) in Tajikistan and prospects for future co-operation with the national authorities was held on 18 April 2018 in Dushanbe.
The meeting was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe within the framework of its SALW CA project portfolio in the country.
Fifteen high-level national participants representing the President’s Administration, the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Security Council, the Defense Ministry, the Interior Ministry, the Main Directorate of Border Troops, the Committee of Emergencies and other designated national agencies took part in the discussion.
The primary goal of the event was to familiarize the national participants with the results of the OSCE impact and sustainability survey on results of the OSCE SALW and CA assistance projects conducted in 2017. Joint achievements, existing gaps and recommendations for further improvement were also discussed.
The participants concluded that the government of Tajikistan remains devoted to fulfilling its international commitments in the area of arms security and control, including through the possible development of a roadmap on SALW and CA security and stockpile management with the assistance of the OSCE.
