The Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan together with the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek and the Centre for Non-proliferation and Export Control are conducting a training course on export control and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction on 3 and 4 April 2018 in Bishkek.
The aim of the course is to increase government agency officials’ knowledge of UN Security Council Resolution 1540. The Resolution affirms that the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and their means of delivery constitutes a threat to international peace and security.
More than 20 representatives of the state bodies involved in the implementation of the Kyrgyz Action Plan on Implementation of Resolution 1540 are participating in the course. These include the General Army Staff, the Internal Affairs Ministry, the State Customs Service, the Health Ministry, the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the State Border Service.
"For the effective interaction of all state bodies and in order to ensure the implementation of Resolution 1540, the Kyrgyz Action Plan was developed with the assistance of the OSCE and the 1540 Committee and approved by Government Decree,” said the State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy Sharsheev Aydin.
In addition to covering international conventions regulating the production, export and use of weapons of mass destruction to assure their control and non-proliferation, the course is also addressing the national export control system of Kyrgyzstan.
The Deputy Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, Valeriu Chiveri, said: "This course is truly important, and it is carried out to strengthen the capacity of the state bodies involved in export control, in accordance with paragraph 17 of the Action Plan. We will continue to assist the country in implementing its commitments effectively.”
