OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek and Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security enhance counter-terrorism co-operation
On July 6, 2017 the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek handed over specialized explosive ordnance disposal equipment to staff of the Kyrgyz Republic State Committee for National Security. This special equipment consisting of bomb suits, helmets and specialized tools will enhance the technical capacities, operational flexibility and security of the State Committee explosive ordnance disposal experts.
“The threat of terrorism constitutes one of the most serious threats to all OSCE participating States, and remains a shared security challenge for foreseeable future. Kyrgyzstan is also actively involved in international co-operation in this field and aims to strengthen and supplement existing international activities in the area of counter-terrorism. We are glad to assist progress in this direction,” said Pierre von Arx, the Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek.
The OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek provides expert and technical assistance to the state security bodies through its counter-terrorism programme activities. In particular, it works closely with the Antiterrorist Centre of Kyrgyzstan’s State Committee for National Security, providing assistance in regular command-staff exercises, building the capacity of its staff members and enhancing facilities. The specialized equipment was handed over within the framework of the Co-operation Agreement with the Kyrgyz Republic State Committee for National Security, signed on July 19, 2016.
