BAKU, 8 February 2024 – This was the first election to be held throughout the internationally recognized territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, an issue that dominated the campaign and was echoed in public sentiment. While preparations for the election were efficient and professional, it lacked genuine pluralism and critical voices were continuously stifled. Longstanding restrictions on freedoms of association and expression were reinforced by recent legal amendments and resulted in legislation not in line with international democratic standards, international observers said in a statement today.
Presentation of the Constitution and the Law on the Rights of Persons with disabilities in the Braille format in Uzbekistan

On 19 February 2021, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan organized a public presentation of the Constitution and the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the rights of persons with disabilities” published in Braille, as well as the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: A Training Guide (Professional Training Series), published in the state language. The National Human Rights Centre and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) co-organized the event.

On 17 and 18 February 2021, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan conducted a roundtable discussion aimed at the advancement of women's participation in politics and business, investing in women's professional development and leadership skills. The event, held in a blended format, was organized jointly with the National Commission on Gender Equality and the Committee on Women and Gender Equality of the Senate.

The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan co-hosted two events, on 2 and 5 February 2021, to discuss the December 2020 address of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on the effectiveness and the results of the 2017-2021 National Action Strategy, as well as the next steps in terms of State development and reforms in the sphere of democratization. The event was co-organized by the Development Strategy Centre, the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan (the Parliament), the National Human Rights Centre, the UNDP's Rule of Law Partnership in Uzbekistan project, the Supreme Court, the United States Agency for International Development, the Chamber of Advocates, the United Nations Country Team in Uzbekistan and the World Bank.
