Statement of OSCE PA President Migliori on the tense institutional climate in Romania
COPENHAGEN, 12 July 2012 – OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Riccardo Migliori today released the following statement:
“I have great concern about the ongoing dangerous institutional clash in Romania. A vibrant discussion of competing political ideas, which is essential in a strong democracy, should not deteriorate into actions that would overstep the Constitutional charter and infringe upon the equal enjoyment of fundamental political rights as well as the independence of the three powers in the rule of law.
We hope that no emergency decrees will force Romania off its path of indispensable European integration or move the country away from the respect for tolerance and democracy.
