Need for greater political pluralism highlighted in OSCE report
Better compliance with the OSCE’s political pluralism commitments is one of the recommendations of a report from the May 2011 OSCE Human Dimension Seminar on the role of political parties in the political process, published by ODIHR on 15 July. It is particularly important to create "level playing fields" in parliaments, with regard to public funding through political party regulation, the report says.
During the seminar topics such as OSCE commitments related to political parties, regulating political parties, women's participation in democratic processes were covered. For the first time in an OSCE meeting, the potential application of e-democracy was discussed. More than 230 participants from governments, civil society, parliaments, and international organizations from over 40 states participated in the meeting.
