ODIHR Director meets UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay in Geneva
The Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Ambassador Janez Lenarčič, met the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, in Geneva on 22 June 2011. They discussed recent Human Rights Council resolutions that are relevant to the work of ODIHR, including those on Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and human rights in the context of peaceful protests. Lenarčič and Pillay also talked about developments in the Mediterranean partner countries of the OSCE, and discussed how to support protection of human rights and strengthening of democracy in the region.
During his visit, Lenarčič signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UNHCR, the UN’s refugee agency. The Memorandum outlines co-operation in combating hate crimes, including expert input exchange, reporting, joint technical advice to governments and participation in training and events.
