In a step towards enhancing OSCE activities in the field of migration and internal displacement, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the Austrian Chairmanship organized a special meeting on this topic in Vienna.
Participants from the OSCE, governments, as well as international and non-governmental organizations discussed the human rights aspects of migration, such as the right to freedom of movement, and touched on the subjects of visa policies, family reunification, asylum and resettlement.
They stressed that the OSCE, with its comprehensive approach to security, its early warning functions and its capacity to assist governments in defining national and regional policies, had great potential to deal with these issues.
