The official inauguration of the 2nd cohort of the International Survivors of Trafficking Advisory Council (ISTAC), consisting of 21 prominent human trafficking survivor leaders from across the OSCE region, will take place on 21 June 2023.
ISTAC assists ODIHR’s work in combatting trafficking in human beings and it is set up with due attention to diversity in terms of professional experience, gender and crosscutting regional representation. Its 2nd cohort is appointed for a two-year term, 2023-2025.
The online launch event will introduce newly appointed ISTAC members and provide an overview of ISTAC accomplishments during the inaugural term, including the presentation of the Code of Practice for Ensuring the Rights of Victims and Survivors of Human Trafficking. The event aims to inform and promote exchange of information and views among OSCE delegations, international experts, civil society and survivors of trafficking on the importance of including and promoting the voices of survivors in all matters related to combating human trafficking.

ODIHR, active in preventing and combating the trafficking in human beings in the OSCE region since 1999, has developed expertise in victim protection and the promotion of rights of trafficked persons and at-risk groups, focusing on the promotion of international human rights standards and gender sensitive measures in response to trafficking. ODIHR’s approach recognizes that trafficked persons are holders of rights and ensures that responses to human trafficking protect these rights, as reflected in ODIHR tools available below. To promote inclusion of survivors’ of THB lived experience and expertise across the OSCE region, ODIHR launched ISTAC in 2021. ODIHR addresses trafficking in human beings through an approach that is based on human rights, rule of law, equality and non-discrimination, and is survivor-centred.
