Training: Good practices in migrant integration for Polish cities, Part I
When

Organized by
The training is part of the Academy on the Integration of Migrants and Refugees in Polish Cities. It covers the main aspects of migrant and refugee integration from the perspective of cities, with strong emphasis on the experiences of cities. It is an opportunity to exchange good practices in responding to challenges linked to inclusion, and migrant and refugee integration. The training draws broadly on ODIHR’s Good Practices in Migrant Integration manual and will enable participants to learn about good practices in other OSCE countries. The topics covered include:
- Welcoming policies, and cultural, linguistic and social integration
- Education and integration of children and youth
- Access to housing and social assistance
- Access to the labour market and promotion of entrepreneurship
- Access to healthcare
Part II of this course, tentatively planned for autumn 2023, will focus on civic and political integration, counteracting misinformation and hate speech, preventing and fighting discrimination, racism and xenophobia and communicating migration and integration issues to the public. Participation in Part I is not a requirement for participating in Part II.
Methodology
The course will rely on interactive training methods and require active contributions from all participants. Under the guidance of experienced trainers, the participants will work with case studies, analyse good practices from other cities and OSCE countries and jointly develop their own plans of action to take home and implement. The course is delivered in Polish by trainers with proven gender and cultural sensitivity. Training materials and a networking dinner are funded by ODIHR. The training venue and catering during the day are provided by the Union of Polish Metropolises.
Participants
26 places are available on the course. Cities which are members of the Union of Polish Metropolises may nominate up to four middle-level practitioners from the departments of health, education, social assistance and social policy (especially those working on access to housing) and promotion of employment and/or other departments relevant for migrant and refugee integration. We particularly encourage nominations from cities which had relatively small migrant and refugee populations before February 2022 and which therefore have less experience with migrant and refugee integration. We also welcome nominations of new employees from cities that are more experienced in the field of migrant and refugee integration.
Application
City authorities should contact the Union of Polish Metropolises with their nominations.
