The conference will discuss approaches to combating trafficking in human beings with a focus on strategies in countries of destination. Through panel discussions and a survivor art exhibition the conference will highlight the importance of ensuring that the gender aspects of trafficking in human beings, as recognized in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Target 5.2 and 16.2, are prioritized within the global anti-trafficking agenda. In light of the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, the conference will further focus on ways to prevent trafficking in human beings and sexual exploitation of vulnerable persons in the context of armed conflict and the situation of refugees in countries of transit and destination.
The attendees will have an opportunity to engage with representatives of government, inter-governmental organizations, civil society as well as the survivor-led movement. They will gain insight into survivors’ perspectives, including from the OSCE/ODIHR International Survivors of Trafficking Advisory Council (ISTAC), and understand how gendered aspects of trafficking in human beings can impact anti-trafficking law and policy implementation. The conference will be an opportunity to discuss challenges, good practices and new trends. The updated ODIHR guidance on effective National Referral Mechanisms will also be presented. Finally, the event will focus on the issue of trafficking for the production of pornography and child sexual abuse materials.
This conference is a follow-up to the June 2021 online conference entitled “Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and All Forms of Sexual Exploitation: Emerging Trends and Long-Term Strategies. German and international approaches.”
