Institutional mechanisms for the advancement of women have been established in nearly every country around the world, also in the OSCE region from North America to Europe and Central Asia. They apply diverse strategies, but all with the same goal: to further promote gender equality and women’s empowerment through the governments’ actions.
On the occasion of the 66th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, ODIHR and the Government of Sweden are co-organizing a side event to discuss ways to strengthen institutional mechanisms for the advancement of women and gender equality across the OSCE region with international experts.
The event will feature a presentation of initial findings from an OSCE-wide mapping on the status, activities, achievements, lessons learned and good practices of institutional mechanisms. The presentation will be delivered by Prof. Amy Mazur of the Washington State University. It will be followed by a discussion of selected examples of lessons learned and innovations that institutional mechanisms can bring to policymaking and institutional transformation.
Dr. Yulia Netesova, ODIHR Chief of the Democratic Governance and Gender Unit will open the event, to be moderated by Saša Gavrić, ODIHR Associate Gender Officer. A Representative of Sweden to the United Nations will deliver closing remarks.
