The purpose of the Proactive Engagement in Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings conference is to provide state authorities and civil society bodies in Sweden with guidance and an overview of relevant international standards to direct policies, procedures and practices to address complex challenges in combatting trafficking in human beings. It will therefore provide a forum for discussion of experiences and promising practices, highlighting:
- The importance of National Referral Mechanisms;
- Interlinkages of human trafficking and migration;
- Ensuring a human rights approach in the return of trafficked persons;
- ICT and human trafficking;
- Proactive identification by health practitioners; and
- The intersection of pornography and human trafficking.
Moreover, the event will be an opportunity to present the OSCE/ODIHR Guiding Principles on Human Rights in the Return of Trafficked Persons.
The conference will bring together representatives of government agencies, civil society and international organizations, to facilitate an exchange of information and views among participants, and to promote a human rights-based, gender-sensitive and victim-centred approach in application of national laws, policies and practices related to combatting trafficking in human beings in Sweden and the OSCE region.
Concluding the conference, ODIHR will screen the film “Love Sonia” to raise awareness of the global linkages of trafficking in human beings.
