OSCE renders assistance to TB colony in Belarus
MINSK 29 March 2001
MINSK, 27 March 2001 - The OSCE Advisory and Monitoring Group in Belarus has donated hygiene and sanitary items to TB Colony No.12 in Orsha. The recipients were 2,300 inmates with active tuberculosis. Items were financed by the European Union and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights as part of efforts to render assistance to the Belarusian penitentiary system.
The project will also include a joint seminar with the Punishment Execution Committee of Belarus on contemporary prison management standards, involving Western European and Russian experts, to be held on 5-6 April 2001. The programme will be concluded with a number of Belarusian prison managers making a study-tour of the Polish penitentiary system in order to exchange experiences with their Polish colleagues. The whole project is implemented in close co-operation with the Punishment Execution Committee of the Republic of Belarus.
