OSCE Mission head condemns continued arson attacks against Montenegrin daily
PODGORICA, 29 August 2011 – The Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, Šarunas Adomavičius, today strongly condemned the continuation of attacks on vehicles owned by the newspaper Vijesti. A car was set on fire early on Saturday morning while parked in front of Pavle Rovinski primary school in the Stari Aerodrom district of Podgorica.
“This is the third arson attack on vehicles belonging to Vijesti in six weeks,” said Adomavičius. He noted that investigations in the two previous arson attacks against Vijesti had so far produced no results.
“These attacks create an insecure environment that can negatively affect the work of journalists and the freedom of expression in Montenegro,” he added.
Adomavičius called upon the authorities to intensify their efforts in bringing the perpetrators to justice and take measures to prevent such incidents from reoccurring.
